We are finally doing it.

Twenty five years ago we bought a property at Pelican Pointe on Last Mountain Lake in Saskatchewan. Our kids grew up, their Dad passed away, yet all this time I dreamed of living at the lake. Finally, with a new spouse, two children, four step-children, six grandchildren and another grand child on the way, the dream of my new home is becoming a reality.

The home was custom designed, in 2007, by Robinson Residential in Regina, Sk. The basement is being built by a local contractor and the main floor and loft are being built and brought in by Conquest Manufacturing in Altona, Manitoba.

No House - HOUSE!!!!

The lift took place on Friday.  What an excitement.  The day was perfect, blue sky and very little wind.  The huge crane from Sterling Cranes was at the site early.  The first section of the house left Craven by 7 A.M. and was set by 10.   The whole operation took all day.

Everyone who was involved in the operation did a great job.  No hitches that we could see.  Amazing to watch it.  In the video I have edited out parts due to time.  Don't think anyone really wants to see hours of house lifting video.  But this gives you an idea of the enormous responsibility that the people placing the house have.

The good people from Conquest sent out a crew to finish off the roof and get the house closed in this weekend.  They finished late Saturday afternoon and went back to Manitoba for the rest of the long weekend.  They will be back on Tuesday for a week or two and finish off all the things that need to still be done.

We were able to climb a ladder and look into the house yesterday.  Oh my goodness - it is beautiful.  Even in a semi-unfinished state.  A few other people took a look too.  Rave reviews.

I will post some more pictures as the finish work on the exterior and interior is done.  Then we will need to get the septic tank, cistern, power, energy and telephone line installed and hooked.  When all that is done, we will move in.  Looking forward to Christmas at Pelican Pointe.

Taking down the Palace.

The Palace is Gone.

The Palace is Gone.
Nothing but an empty lot for now.

Sad to see the old place go.

Well...it only took an hour and a half to demolish the old cottage. Having the place gone will not erase all the wonderful memories. Watching my two kids play every summer, having eight kids in my daycare out there a week at a time for 7 summers in a row, friends and families enjoying the lake and a good B.B.Q. It is sad but exciting to think that we will have a new home for all the kids, grand kids and friends to visit. One month away from the house rolling in from Altona. YIKES.

The Basement.

Just a big, empty hole in the ground to start.
