We are finally doing it.

Twenty five years ago we bought a property at Pelican Pointe on Last Mountain Lake in Saskatchewan. Our kids grew up, their Dad passed away, yet all this time I dreamed of living at the lake. Finally, with a new spouse, two children, four step-children, six grandchildren and another grand child on the way, the dream of my new home is becoming a reality.

The home was custom designed, in 2007, by Robinson Residential in Regina, Sk. The basement is being built by a local contractor and the main floor and loft are being built and brought in by Conquest Manufacturing in Altona, Manitoba.

Rain, Rain, Please please please go away

So.....we thought that the house would be sitting at Pelican Pointe on the basement today.  That was the plan.  Best laid plans....
It has rained and rained the last three days.  We were planning on staging the house at a small town called Silton, a few minutes from our place.  The three pieces to move would sit in the staging area and be moved to the basement.  But the rain has turned the Silton roads and staging area into a quagmire.  So the movers stayed in Balgonie, Sk. last night and then moved 2/3 of the house to the Craven Big Valley Jamboree site. This is a huge area and the loft section will be moved to this staging area tomorrow.  We hope to have the house out of there by Friday.   And sitting on the foundation at Pelican Pointe. The crane cannot be set until everything dries up and  I am a wreck!!!

Pictures are of 2/3 of the house sitting at the Big Valley Jamboree site.  Good thing the party out there is not happening this weekend.

Guess we will have to wait an extra few days before we are sitting on the veranda watching the pelicans, geese, baby grebes,, sailboats, noisy boats, etc.  After twenty five years of dreaming a few more days is insignificant I guess.

The loft section that will sit over the middle of the house is currently about 50 miles away from these sibling sections.  Hoping that a nice sectional reunion will transpire this week.  We saw what we thought was an eagle this evening.  Good sign???

Four more sleeps!!!

The house will be shipped from Altona on Monday.  The crane is booked for Tuesday and we are hoping and praying for good weather on craning day.  The house will be set on Tuesday and then the crew from Conquest will have a couple of weeks of finish work on site.
The trees got trimmed, the shed got moved, the piles are poured for the veranda and the lot is level and ready for activity.  Oh my my........
These are some pictures of the almost ready to move house.

The veranda.

The veranda gate.  This will lead to the area on the beach side that will be grass next year.

I think this is the small overhang that goes above the main door on the road side.  This shows the nice shingles that Conquest chose for us.  The ones we chose were not available and I like these shingles better than the original ones we picked.

Part of the great room.  The fireplace is wood burning and the rock face goes up two stories.

The rest of the fireplace rock in the loft.

Part of the great room looking into the entrance on the left, the den/guest room, the stairwell and the double doors opening into the master suite section.

The kitchen.  The cabinets are maple and custom made at the Conquest factory.

In the centre is the kitchen pantry.

The dining room was designed to fit the antique buffet and dining set that my Mother gave me.  This set is being refinished and should look very nice in this spot.

The en suite bathroom with a nice linen closet.  The counter tops will match the quartz counter tops we chose for the kitchen and laundry room.

The very important surround for the very important spa tub.

A sideways look at one of the doors.  All the interior doors are pine and stained the same with matching antique looking door knobs.  And another (sideways) view of the master en suite linen closet.

Two doors on the road side.  The door to the left is the main entrance.  This entrance has a great view of the lake through the house as you walk in.  It is also designed with a little drop back area for an antique chair/captain's bench I inherited.
The nearest door goes straight into a mud room.  The grandkids can come in filthy, drop their clothes into a sink or the washer, then step right into the bathroom with a shower, toilet and sink.  We can also enter through the mud room door when working in the yard and not have to go through the main areas to wash up or use the washroom.  Very Saskatchewan....
The wooden rail is for a future small deck that will be used for both doors.
Needless to say we are getting excited.

WOW - things are starting to really happen fast now.

We went out to the beach to trim back branches on trees today. While there,  the bobcat arrived to backfill and level the lot.  This will allow the crane and the transport trucks to get in.

The build at Conquest, in Altona, will be done on Thursday, August 26.  The three sections of the house will likely be placed by the crane on the 31st.  Hope it is not a windy day.  Between now and the 31 we need our basement contractor to do the piles for the veranda, move a shed, finish trimming the trees in the way.  Our excavation company will dig the veranda piles, finish filling in the lot and spread a thin layer of gravel over where the crane and transports will be.  Yikes.  Thankfully we have great contractors to work with and have great faith that this will all come together.

The levelled lot as seen from the road.  Murray,  the bobcat operator did a great job.

Another view of the lot.  The shed has to be moved for the crane to sit on that spot.

The build at Conquest continues

We received more pictures from Conquest today.  Things are moving right along and the build will be done by the end of next week.  Now we are just waiting for a confirmation date for the crane to lift the house into place.!

The veranda and patio doors leading out from the great room.

This is the window in the dining room.

Where the fireplace will sit.  There will be a two story stonework face on the fireplace.  The open space at the top will be the vaulted ceiling.

Just back from Altona.

We just returned from Winnipeg and another visit to the great people at Conquest Manufacturing.  I really, really enjoy working with Conquest.  We got to tour and see the progress on the house.  Windows are in, gyproc is almost done, custom cabinets and cupboards are being finished, etc.  Things get more exciting every day.  AND AND AND looks like the tentative delivery date is August 31. We will keep our fingers crossed.

The veranda section overlooking the lake.

Looking into the veranda section of the house.

The back section of the house with the veranda (front) section in front.

Looking into the back section.

The cabinets are all custom made at Conquest.  We are getting maple cabinets throughout the house, with those cool slow closing latches and drawer slides.

The doors are solid pine and I picked out some antique door knobs in a bronzed finish for the doors.

My spa tub.  42 jets, heated back rest and heated head rest.  Need I say more???
Behind me is the loft section.

Standing on the veranda.  The decking is Trex deck that clicks into place. No nail or screw holes are visible and best of all .... no maintenance.

The three sections of the house.  Loft is in the foreground.  Back section is to the left and you can just see a bit of the veranda section to the right behind the loft.

We still  need to get the septic and cistern in place and then the power, gas and phone/internet connected when the house comes in.  But all in good time.

Pretty soon school will be back and it will be time to go to work again.  Thankfully I work flex hours and will be able to see the craning process when the house comes in.  Then it will be moving in time. Hoping to have Thanksgiving and our grandson's birthday party at Pelican Pointe.

Well, that is about it for now.  It was a great quick trip from Regina to Winnipeg.  Had a lovely evening out with our friend Geri.  She has already booked us in for our housewarming next July.  Should be fun.

We are able to see how this place will look (sort of).

We just received some pictures from the build at Conquest today.  Oh my goodness!!!

The front of the house with the covered veranda on the lake side.  The two small windows on the side will be in half the dining room.

The flooring is laid.  It is covered with plastic for now.

To the left is the front 1/2 of the master suite and in the corner (middle of picture) is where the fireplace will sit.

The entrance way to the left and a den/guest room in the middle.  There will be shelves on either side of the den.  To the right is the back of the master suite where the walk in closet and exercise room will be.

The loft section.  The loft will be overlooking the great room.

The back of the loft looking out onto the road.

The front of the loft looking out onto the lake.

Back of the main floor.  This will connect to the front/veranda section shown in a previous post.  Looking from the left will be the en suite bath (window), the den, entrance doorway and another doorway to the mudroom/laundry and guest bath areas.

This is a view of the loft section with the front section of the main floor in behind.  The back section in the previous picture will connect to the front main floor section in this picture.  Then the loft will be lowered onto the whole thing to finish the house.

We are getting very excited about our trip to Altona next week.!!!!!!There will be lots more to see and we are hoping that some of the cabinets will be in.

The basement is nearly finished and will be waiting for the house by mid August.  This weekend we will be cutting back some branches of trees to make sure the house does not hit anything as the crane lifts it into place.  Hope it does not rain.

Not much to see about the house for now.

The basement is nearly done.  The main floor and loft are being built.  So it looks like not much is happening.  But it is.  We had to take down a shed this weekend to make room for the bobcat to get in to back fill the basement.   Also needed to move a large woodpile by the shed.   This young deer was right beside the road when we were heading back to Regina today, and was polite enough to let us take his picture.  As we were leaving I told him to not be so nice to people. Hunting season is coming.  Then realized what a brilliant deer he was.  The land is posted for no hunting.  Yeah.

My daughter got married last weekend (July 24).  Her two dogs were the ring bearers.  Only my Amber!!!!

We are heading to Altona soon to see how the build is coming.  Should be lots to see and will take lots of pictures.

The Palace is Gone.

The Palace is Gone.
Nothing but an empty lot for now.

Sad to see the old place go.

Well...it only took an hour and a half to demolish the old cottage. Having the place gone will not erase all the wonderful memories. Watching my two kids play every summer, having eight kids in my daycare out there a week at a time for 7 summers in a row, friends and families enjoying the lake and a good B.B.Q. It is sad but exciting to think that we will have a new home for all the kids, grand kids and friends to visit. One month away from the house rolling in from Altona. YIKES.
